Student positions
We are looking for 1-2 graduate students to start in fall 2025. Applications at both the MS and PhD level are welcome.
Our group will focus on nano-optics under extreme conditions (high magnetic fields, low temperatures) over the next five years. The systems to study include quantum materials and topological low dimensional systems. I expect PhD students to develop their own projects, with my guidance. MSc students would have a choice of projects. The common thread is that everyone in my lab asks fundamental questions about the material properties (optical and thermal properties, quantum criticality, topology, etc.) at the nanoscale and develops experimental and theoretical tools to solve the problems.
If you’re interested but haven't heard my talk or work, please email me (mengkun.liu@stonybrook.edu). Tell me a little about your background, interests, and long-term (post-grad school) goals, including why you think my lab would be a good fit for you. Our group has published 50+ journal articles in the past five years, including PRX, PRL, Nature Physics, Nature Photonics, Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, Advanced Materials etc... For more on my mentoring philosophy, we can schedule a one-on-one meeting. Guaranteed funding is available for 4 years (PhD or Master-->PhD) through a combination of TA ships, RA ships, and other sources.
